Written Feedback

Thank you for sharing your music with us and giving us the opportunity to review this track — we genuinely enjoyed listening to it. From the very first listen, it’s clear that the song has a strong musical foundation. The instrumental side feels confident and well-developed, and the guitar work in particular stands out as one of the strongest elements — it feels expressive, controlled, and adds a clear sense of character to the track. There’s also a consistency in the atmosphere that helps the song maintain its identity from start to finish, which is always a strong quality.

At the same time, after spending more time with the track, it feels like it doesn’t fully reach the level it potentially could — not because of the composition itself, but mainly because of how the vocal is presented within the mix.

The vocal feels like it should be the emotional center of the track, but in its current state, it doesn’t fully take that role. Instead, it sits slightly behind the instrumental, which makes it harder to connect with it as the main focal point. As a listener, the attention naturally shifts more toward the instrumentation, even though the vocal seems intended to lead the track.

There is also a sense that the vocal lacks a bit of presence and clarity, particularly in the midrange. It doesn’t feel weak, but it doesn’t quite step forward either — especially when the instrumental becomes more active. Because of this, some of the emotional impact that the vocal could deliver feels slightly softened.

Another thing that becomes noticeable over time is the continuous use of vocal doubling. While this adds width and smoothness, it also seems to reduce some of the natural articulation and brightness of the vocal. Since it is used throughout most of the track, there is less contrast between sections, and the vocal ends up feeling slightly more distant than it could be.

Overall, the impression is that the musical core of the track is strong and well-built, but the way the vocal is integrated into the mix slightly limits how engaging and emotionally direct the track feels. At the same time, these observations relate mostly to refinement rather than fundamental issues — the track already has a clear identity, and with relatively focused adjustments, it could translate much more effectively to the listener.

These are our thoughts based on the current version, and naturally, everything depends on your own artistic intention and the sound you want to achieve.

Thank you again for choosing to share the track with us, and we wish you the very best with the song moving forward!

Strengths

  • Strong Musical Foundation: The song feels well-built and confident from the first listen.
  • Consistent Atmosphere: The song maintains a cohesive atmosphere from beginning to end.
  • Expressive Guitar Work: The guitar stands out in particular, with an expressive and controlled performance that adds character to the track.
  • Strong Instrumental Performance: The instrumental side is one of the track’s clearest strengths and gives the song a solid foundation.
  • Clear Musical Identity: The track already has a recognizable character that is worth preserving while refining the vocal presentation.

Areas of Improvement

High Priority

The lead vocal sits slightly behind the instrumental and does not fully establish itself as the emotional center of the track.

As a starting point, test bringing the lead vocal up by approximately +1 to +2 dB relative to the instrumental.

Compare this with reducing the instrumental by around -1 dB if that produces a more natural overall balance.

Judge the adjustment in the fuller sections of the song, where the instrumental becomes more active.

Bring the vocal further forward so it clearly functions as the main focal point while preserving the strength of the instrumental.

High Priority

The vocal could have more presence and clarity, particularly in the midrange, which would help it connect more directly with the listener.

Check the vocal presence region around 2.5–4.5 kHz and, if needed, test a subtle boost of approximately +1 to +2 dB.

If additional brightness is needed, try a gentle lift of around +1 dB in the upper frequencies.

Make these adjustments in the context of the full mix rather than judging the vocal in isolation.

Give the vocal more definition and presence without making it sound unnatural or changing its character.

Medium Priority

Vocal doubling appears to be used throughout most of the track, which seems to reduce some of the lead vocal’s natural articulation and brightness.

Try reducing the doubled vocal by approximately 2–4 dB in sections where the lead needs more articulation.

Compare the current version with one where doubling is used mainly in choruses or on selected key phrases.

In verses, test the doubled layer around 3–6 dB lower than in the choruses, or remove it from selected phrases entirely.

Retain the width that doubling can provide while allowing the lead vocal to sound clearer, brighter, and more emotionally direct.

Medium Priority

Using the same doubled vocal treatment through most of the song also reduces the contrast between sections.

Use changes in the amount of doubling to create a clearer distinction between verses, choruses, and important phrases.

Compare narrower verse vocals with wider doubled choruses and judge whether this gives the arrangement more movement.

Create more contrast between sections while keeping the song’s existing atmosphere and musical identity intact.

Low Priority

The vocal could feel slightly more direct and emotionally engaging once the main balance, presence, and doubling adjustments have been made.

After adjusting the vocal level, presence, and doubling, compare the revised vocal directly with the current mix.

Check whether the vocal feels more immediate and emotionally engaging without becoming unnaturally dominant over the instrumental.

Help the vocal communicate the song more directly and strengthen the emotional connection with the listener while preserving the track’s existing character.

What's Next

Outcome of This Review

You’ll have a focused path for bringing the vocal forward, improving its presence and clarity, and using doubling more selectively while preserving the strong instrumental foundation and consistent atmosphere that already define the track.

Start with the vocal balance

First, revisit the relationship between the lead vocal and the instrumental. The goal is to make the vocal feel like the emotional center of the track while preserving the strength of the accompaniment.

Refine presence and clarity

Once the overall balance feels right, focus on the vocal’s presence and midrange clarity, especially in the more active parts of the arrangement.

Reconsider the doubling

Compare the current approach with a version where doubling is used more selectively, such as in choruses or on key phrases, and judge which approach gives the vocal more articulation and emotional impact.

Check section contrast

Listen to how the vocal treatment changes from section to section. Selective doubling can help create more contrast without requiring changes to the song’s core arrangement.

Protect the song’s identity

A/B the revised version against the current mix and make sure the vocal improvements strengthen the listener connection without taking away from the instrumental performance, guitar character, or overall atmosphere.
